A special thanks to Ms. Levin, Ms. Sciarra, Ms. Hansen, Ms. Schepke and Ms. Newman for providing such yummy starts to our day this past week! The children were thrilled and it helped relax them. I am pleased with the effort and hard work the children have been putting in to ISATs. They will bring great honor to Willard school with their scores. We have three more days of testing left. Monday is the last day of math, and then we have two days of science. Keep our babies motivated with a pep talk, a hug, and a good night's sleep. Thanks also for getting so many of the children to school on time and all the donations of pencils and markers.
Along with testing, we have still been working very hard in 211! The children are writing personal essays, where they write about something important to them and defend it. Please ask them what they wrote about. We have begun new books as well for literature circles. The children are reading Hiroshima, Bridge to Terabithia, and Shiloh, which they chose in their groups. Our next unit in math is area, perimeter, and using scale to read and interpret maps and make scale model drawings. Finally, in social studies, we are diving into government: what it means, why we have it, and the three branches of it.
As we discussed at conferences, children will still be getting their graded papers back, but they cannot resubmit them for a higher grade. They should still redo them so they learn from their mistakes, however! Finally, I will be out the Friday before break, and the Monday and Tuesday after break. I have secures the sub who the children requested because she teaches then, treats them fairly, and makes sure they are all doing their best. Please encourage positive behavior and leadership in our shared child so everyone can learn in a safe and happy environment. The children know I will be out, and we have discussed how they should act and what they need to do to do centers and learn the way they prefer. A little reinforcement from you will go a long way.
